Complete your badge requirements at Discovery Center! Select from our themes for Cub Scout Events 2017-2018.

Advance registration and advance payment are required. $12 non-refundable deposit due at time of registration. Deposit counts toward full amount. Only approximate number of participants required for registration. Full payment and firm numbers due 2 business days prior to event. Adult fee waved for second workshop, same day. Total minimum payment for all workshops is $130 regardless of attendance. Additional supply/program fee may apply.***

If you think you may be eligible for a scholarship, contact Meghan Richards at scouts@discoverycentermuseum.org or call 815-972-2843. Scholarships are based on a child’s eligibility for a school’s free or reduced lunch program.

Cancellation Policy: Refunds are available up to one week prior to event, minus deposit. Discovery Center reserves the right to cancel events; in which case, a full refund will be issued.

• Optional: Add $2 per scout for a Planetarium Show (unless already included in scout program)

 

 

Tigers

The Sky is the Limit: 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 Discover the night sky and learn about the tools used by explorers and stargazers to see the stars and planets. Visit our planetarium, make a glowing constellation and even create your own celestial story! (1.5 hours)

 

Wolves

Air of the Wolf: 1a, 1b, 1c, 2b, 2c, 3b Get ready to experiment, design and build in this amazing air-powered adventure! Launch a hot air balloon, make a sound sandwich, and fly a kite your create yourself. (2 hours)

Digging in the Past: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 Become a paleontologist and dig into the past! Put your knowledge to the test, create your own dino, dig for bones and make a fossil. Come prepared to get messy! (2 hours)

Germs Alive: 1, 2, 3, 4 Bacteria, mucus and snot, oh my! Concoct your own snot and learn how your body’s mucus membranes keep you healthy in this germ infested investigation. (1.5 hours)

Motor Away: 1, 2, 3 The possibilities are endless as you apply your imagination to properties of propulsion. Experiment with different forces to move planes, boats, cars and more! (2.5 hours)

 

Bears

Forensics: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Follow the clues to solves the mystery! Use real forensic science and your own deductive reasoning to track the culprit and crack the case. Don’t let your eyes deceive you; the evidence is everywhere. (1.5 hours)

Make it Move: 1, 2, 3, 4a, 4b Use your imagination to build machines that roll, rock, tip, drop and fly! Make an exploding craft and find out how simple machines help us gain the advantage! (1.5 hours)

Super Science: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 Put on your lab coat and get ready for super science! Mix, measure, pour and zap your way through the scientific method with experiments that look like magic! (2 hours)

 

Webelos

Adventures in Science: 2, 3d, 3g 3h Mix, measure and pour some radical chemical reactions. Then, launch a rocket and perfect a plane’s lift as you experiment with Bernoulli’s Principle and Newton’s Laws of Motion and discover the ins and outs of pressure! (2.5 hours)

Earth Rocks: 1a, 1b, 2, 3a, 3b, 4a, 7b, 8 Make a volcanic eruption, touch a dinosaur fossil, classify rocks and minerals, and collect some specimens of your own in this hands-on experience. (3 hours)

Engineer: 2a, 2b, 2c, 3, 4 Build and test bridges, construct a working circuit from scratch, hook up with simple machines, explore engineer careers, and more in this hands-on workshop! (2 hours)

Gaming Design: 1, 3, 4 Piece together the basic parts of a computer and get ready to explore! Use real computer coding languages to change the rules and make a world that’s all your own! (1.5 hours)
