Position Overview: 

The Tot Spot Classroom Assistant provides support to the Early Childhood Educator during Tot Spot Classes. This is a part-time position and requires a friendly, welcoming individual who enjoys engaging with children and families in a customer-facing environment. In the Tot Spot classroom, we believe strongly in our students’ abilities and respect what they have to say as small humans who are learning.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Aid in class material preparation which includes laminating, cutting, making copies, etc.
  • Positively assist students with behavior during circle time and read aloud.
  • Lead a small group activity during center time.
  • Rotate around the classroom during center time to assist with students’ needs, positively direct behavior, and play with students as they navigate the classroom activities.
  • Assist in set up and clean up/sanitization before and after classes.
  • Interact with children in a positive, upbeat and encouraging way.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

  • High School Diploma; teaching experience or education classes are a plus
  • Pass a background check
  • Possess superior customer service skills with the ability to be creative, flexible, and positive
  • Proven effective presentation and communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, active environment with the ability to adapt to change

Work Environment:

This position requires the ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, occasionally lift from floor to waist, and occasionally reach above shoulder height to access supplies. Must be able to push, pull and lift up to 40 lbs. Must also be able to maintain friendly and courteous interactions with museum staff and visitors in a moderately noisy environment.
