Position Overview:
Camp-In Facilitators are responsible for leading STEM activities with groups of children and adults overnight at the museum. Facilitators greet and sign the guests in, interact with the guests and oversee the camp-in schedule, run educational activities, serve an evening snack and continental breakfast, and help guests in the museum. This is a part-time position and requires a friendly, flexible individual who enjoys engaging with children and families in large groups.
Shifts are 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm or 5:30 pm – 8:30 am
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Facilitate camp-in activities and interact with program participants with a high level of energy and enthusiasm
- Supervise a diverse group of students and adults
- Monitor the museum floor operations including resetting exhibit pieces as needed
- Handle all situations ensuring the safety of museum guests and the security of museum facilities, equipment, and supplies
- Attend all staff meetings and trainings as assigned
- Present a positive, professional image as an ambassador for the museum
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge/Skills/Experience:
- High School Diploma; teaching experience or education classes are a plus
- Pass a background check
- Having an interest and ability to work with children
- Multi-task efficiently while maintaining a workload in a fast-paced, active environment with the ability to adapt to change
- Possess superior customer service skills with the ability to be creative, flexible, and positive
- Proven effective presentation and communication skills, both written and oral. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written or oral form
Work Environment:
This position requires the ability to stand and walk on the museum floor all-day long, maintaining friendly and courteous interactions with museum staff and visitors in a moderately noisy environment. This position requires bending, occasional lifting from floor to waist, reaching at shoulder height, and occasional reaching above shoulder height to access supplies. Must be able to push, pull and lift up to 40 lbs.
Additionally, this position requires the following:
- Effective use of PA system and communication radios
- Conforming to dress code including wearing of uniform shirts and apron
- This position requires staff to spend the night, and waking and responding to any issues if they arise.
