Position Overview:
Discovery Center Children’s Museum is seeking a dynamic and innovative Education Director to lead and manage the educational programs at our museum. This role requires a strategic thinker with a passion for children’s education and an ability to align curriculum development with the museum’s mission.
The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and overseeing a diverse range of educational initiatives aimed at maximizing engagement and generating revenue through programs such as outreach, camp-ins, homeschool initiatives, summer camps, and field trips.
Key Responsibilities:
1) Curriculum Development
- Design and implement a comprehensive and engaging educational curriculum that aligns with the museum’s mission and educational standards.
- Collaborate with museum staff and external education specialists to ensure that the curriculum is innovative, inclusive, and impactful.
2) Program Management:
- Oversee the development, execution, and evaluation of educational programs including outreach initiatives, camp-ins, homeschool programs, summer camps, and field trips.
- Develop creative and revenue-generating program formats that meet a variety of educational needs and age groups.
3) Revenue Generation:
- Identify and implement strategies to generate revenue from educational programs, ensuring their sustainability and growth.
- Work closely with the advancement team to promote educational programs and increase participation.
4) Partnership Development:
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with schools, educators, community organizations, and other stakeholders to enhance the museum’s educational offerings.
- Support the advancement team to secure grants, sponsorships, and partnerships to increase financial support for educational initiatives.
5) Leadership and Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of educators and support staff, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Provide professional development opportunities for staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
6) Evaluation and Reporting
- Develop and implement assessment tools to evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs and curricula.
- Prepare reports and presentations for museum leadership and stakeholders on program outcomes and future plans.
7) Other:
- Carries out other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- Proven experience in curriculum development and educational program management, preferably in a museum or similar setting.
- Strong leadership skills with experience in team management.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and build strong community partnerships.
- Experience in budget management and revenue generation.
Work Environment:
Primary environment:
Typical office and museum environment with constant co-worker and visitor interactions. The environment is maintained at an ambient room temperature, lighting, and traditional office equipment (such as: computers, printers, telephones, etc.) as found in a typical office environment.
