Position Overview:

Discovery Guides play an integral role in the success of the museum’s mission by facilitating our exhibits, interacting with guests of all ages, and maintaining our exhibits – all of which contribute greatly to the overall guest experience at the museum. This is a part-time position and requires a friendly, welcoming individual who enjoys engaging with children and families in a customer-facing environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Monitor the museum floor operations during business hours which includes assisting guests and volunteers and keeping all museum areas cleaned and tidied
• Have a working knowledge of all exhibits and be able to engage and instruct guests about exhibit operations
• Handle all situations ensuring the safety of museum guests and the security of museum facilities, equipment and supplies
• Provide tours and other programs as assigned including live science demonstrations and planetarium shows
• Present a positive, professional image as an ambassador for the museum
• Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

• High School Diploma
• Exceptional customer service skills and commitment to providing superior visitor experience
• Ability to display and use effective interpersonal skills, positive attitude, and collaborative spirit and interact at all levels of the Museum
• Proven effective presentation and communication skills, both written and oral
• Able to work in a fast-paced, active environment with the ability to adapt to change

Work Environment:

This position requires the ability to stand and walk on the museum floor all-day long, maintaining friendly and courteous interactions with museum staff and visitors in a moderately noisy environment. This position requires bending, occasional lifting from floor to waist, reaching at shoulder height, and occasional reaching above shoulder height to access supplies. Must be able to push, pull and lift up to 40 lbs. Additionally, this position requires the following:

• Effective use of PA system and communication radios
• Work primarily indoors and occasionally outdoors during seasonal events
• Conforming to dress code including wearing of uniform shirts and apron
