Pay Rate: $15.00/hour

 

Program Overview:

Discovery Center Museum is seeking 3 energetic and creative individuals to join our team as summer interns. This role is ideal for those who enjoy interacting with the public, especially children. The summer arts interns will be key contributors to our summer programs and events, helping to ensure a memorable experience for our visitors.

All applicants should be graduating high school seniors. This is a paid internship that lasts from June 2025 to August 2025. Interns will work up to 20 hours per week. Must be available to work Fridays from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, otherwise scheduling is flexible.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in planning and implementing Family Friday events, including creating decorations and organizing activities that align with the weekly theme
  • Assist with programming within the museum’s Makerspace and Lab
  • Assist Discovery Center staff with special event planning and execution
  • Design and lead special projects
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

  • Must be a high school senior graduating in May 2025
  • Have an interest in art, science, and working with children
  • Have a positive, friendly attitude and a collaborative spirit
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, active environment with the ability to adapt to change

 

Work Environment:

This position requires the ability to stand and walk for the majority of their shift while maintaining friendly and courteous interactions with museum staff and visitors in a moderately noisy environment. This position requires bending, occasional lifting from floor to waist, reaching at shoulder height, and occasional reaching above shoulder height to access supplies. Must be able to push, pull and lift up to 40 lbs. Additionally, this position requires the following:

  • Work primarily indoors and occasionally outdoors during seasonal events
  • Conforming to dress code including wearing of uniform shirts and apron
