Vacation website names Discovery Center a top destination

ROCKFORD, Ill. –– Discovery Center Museum announced today that it was named one of the “10 Best Children’s Museums in the U.S.” by Family Vacation Critic. Discovery Center was one of two Illinois museums named in the article. See http://www.familyvacationcritic.com.

“We are so proud of our museum for receiving this recognition,” explains Sarah Wolf, executive director of Discovery Center Museum. “We are thrilled to bring such positive recognition to our museum and our community,” she adds.

In the Family Vacation Critic article, Discovery Center shares the spotlight with museums such as the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis; Boston Children’s Museum; Children’s Museum of Houston; and the Minnesota Children’s Museum. There are over 200 children’s museums in the United States.

Discovery Center served 265,000 people in 2012–a new record for the museum. It served almost 174,000 visitors on site and another 91,000 through the museum’s outreach programs.

In 2002, Child magazine ranked Discovery Center 4th in the first-ever survey to identify the 10 best children’s museums in the nation. Then in 2009, Discovery Center was included in the book, The Ten Best of Everything: Families in the category of children’s museums.
